Working With Numbers
There are lots of different ways of doing research. One way of talking about these different ways is to call them 'Quantitative' and 'Qualitative'. The research in 'Bankside Hostel' that is described on this website has used qualitative methods. That is, we have spent time getting to know people, and interviewing them, and the data we work with is their words. We also used photographic methods with the residents of the hostel. When doing quantitative research, data is usually converted into numbers in order for patterns and trends to be observed. Here we provide a very brief introduction to doing research in that way.
